• Vocational Centre Products - Skills and Ability school, has a small vocational set up for the young mentally challenged adults where they are provided training for making items like agarbattis, paper bags, dusters, hand painted diyas, rakhis, phenyl and greeting cards. Volunteer assistance is required in organizing and managing exhibitions and also boosting the sales by exploring newer ideas of marketing the products.
• Garden Project - The objective is training young adults at the Vocational centre towards plant care and maintenance. We aim at setting up a service for providing plants on hire basis to office in the nearby vicinity at the initial stage. Volunteer support is definitely needed to help the young adults to learn and simultaneously extend support to the trainer in identifying potential customers where such plants could be placed.

Events

• The design of the school program includes providing guided learning experiences to the child both inside and outside the classroom. We create and also tap every opportunity of providing such essential learning experiences by organizing cultural activities, celebrating festivals, holding monthly competitions, conducting sports activities and other activities throughout the year. For organizing all these events volunteering help is required before and during such events.
• We participate in awareness building campaigns through rallies on relevant days of the cause like 'World Disabled Day', 'World Deaf Day'. Assistance in organizing such campaigns and rallies is required.
• Throughout the year various events are held at our schools for which funding is required. Finding sponsors for such events minimizes our burden of bearing such costs. A reference of sponsors and supporters for such specific events is one area where the need for volunteer assistance is needed.

• For the hearing impaired students the usage of audio visual techniques for learning has made the entire learning process very simple and interesting. Thus, our special educators have been trained to prepare lesson plans on computers. There are quite a few of them who are using the technique effectively. However many need to further develop their skills. Volunteers having a fair knowledge of computers would be of great assistance in helping the teachers prepare the lesson plans and simultaneously, upgrade the knowledge base of the teachers.
• In addition to the above, Computers is also a subject for the hearing impaired students. Volunteers interested could also assist the computer instructor to conduct the class and provide children with the practical experience they need.
• For most of the mentally challenged students computers serve more as a teaching tool which enables them to develop better focus and concentrate and also helps their motor skills. Volunteers could help students play educational and recreational computer games or take them through short films.

Classroom Activities

• Special Educators conduct indoor and outdoor activities at the School for which assistance is needed.
• Male volunteers are required for conducting sports activities and playing games like football or cricket especially with our young male adults as our team consists of all female staff.
• Children with special needs require continuous innovative and newer teaching tools as repetitive use of the same tools creates monotony and it is difficult to get their attention. The task of preparing different tools for all the students is cumbersome for one single teacher. Thus assistance in preparing such aids would relieve the teachers to a great extent and lead towards enhancing her overall efficiency.
• In addition to the already existing challenges the performance of young adults at the vocational centre is greatly influenced by their varying moods. They need continuous motivation and appreciation for enabling them to better their performance.

Other areas requiring support

• Documentation is a vital area requiring volunteering support. A need to document case studies of students, prepare write ups of events and activities at the schools and their outcomes are areas where volunteers could extend their support.
• Volunteers who are interested in photography and video shooting could document the above mentioned activities through cameras.
• Being a social organization communication plays a vital role. What and how we do needs to be communicated to our donors. We have to create visibility about the cause to increase the acceptance of the special population and fight against the social stigma attached to the disability.
• Expertise from HR could be of great help if they could develop and help us implement techniques for team building and increasing the motivation levels of the team.
