MAINSTREAM SETTLEMENT

Most of Indians do not have idea about the diseases related with mental health. Most of them think this is a small thing compare with another huge social and economic problems that fence our India. The truth is that, they are blind and we are going to tell you why.

The Census of 2002 showed 18.53 million people are living with disability in India. This means more than 15% of our Indian population. It is like one Mumbai of disability people. A huge number!

Thinking about that, what we can do to this people? We cannot just forget that they exist. We have to do something!

Look, j ust in the state of Maharashtra, 82% of Mentally Challenged and 60% of the Hearing Impaired are unemployed. As well, 58.2% of Mentally Challenged and 49% of the Hearing Impaired are illiterate, too.

If they can not read or write their own names and can not work, how they are going to live?

Wait! We are not asking your money to support theirs life. It is not that! We are asking your help to teach them - how to read and write their own names and where and how they can work.

And this is the focus of our NGO, which is to integrate and educate the Special Population into mainstream society by eradicating the stigma attached to them and continuously providing them with the best related services in every possible away. It is beautiful, is not it?

Ok it is wonderful but, how we do that?

Our institution has more than 60 years. And one of ours research discovers that the best time to approach the disability people is when they are young. The reckoning of success is evident when the children try to do certain things those other normal children can easily perform.

As a result at our two Skills and Abilities Schools, we have many children who have marked their presence in different fields. And the amazing thing is we have not come across a single student who has not shown any sign of improvement during his or her tenure in our Schools. How we can do that?
